I've always been a lover of design in all its forms, but my road to here is an unconventional one!

I trained and worked as an accountant for 15 years, first at a giant firm and then I oversaw the finances for the Faculty of Fine Arts at a major university in Montreal. After shifting my focus on my family of three kids for a number of years, I faced a dilemma: return to accounting, or make a major leap and pursue my longtime love of interior design?

I decided to go back to school full-time for 3 years to obtain my degree in interior design, and made the career switch official.

​

Along the way, I joined the governing board of Mères avec pouvoir (meaning Powerful Mothers) which provides socio-professional support to young single mothers and their children. In my new design career, I make people's homes the best reflection of themselves and their experiences, in much the same way that Mères avec pouvoir does with these mothers’ goals and aspirations. The work of empowering women is very dear to me.

My goal is to continue to help people create the spaces they dream of, that suit their lifestyles and reflect who they are. I'm not a believer in pushing a certain aesthetic or following what's trendy -- I err on the side of timeless design and choosing items and finishes that work as hard as they are appealing to look at.

P.S. For those who are wondering, my name is pronounced 'Shayna' (which is short for Sarah Ann). My parents used that nickname for me that as a child and it always stuck!
